Aston Villa journalist Dan Rolinson has made a claim on Villa striker Mbwana Samatta.

This comes after Rolinson recently appeared on a new episode of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast to talk about a variety of topics concerning Dean Smith’s side.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the subject of Samatta and his future at Villa Park, Rolinson shared his views on the player and what he thinks will happen to him.

He said: “I think they will try and move [Mbwana] Samatta on if they can. I think they will persist with Wesley because he just got injured. I don’t think Samatta has shown enough for them, and if you can get six or seven million and he goes somewhere else, I think they’ll just cut their losses.”

Villa signed Samatta in the previous January transfer window from Belgian side KRC Genk for a fee of £9.45 million after Wesley sustained a season-ending injury on New Year’s Day.

Since then, the 27-year-old, who is currently valued at £8.55 million, has gone on to make 16 appearances for Villa in which he managed to score just two goals (per Transfermarkt).

Samatta’s performances in the 14 Premier League appearances he made for Villa since his arrival earned him a disappointing season rating of 6.42/10 (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

It’s a shame that Rolinson doesn’t see a future for Samatta at Villa, however, given how Samatta had only managed to score two goals for Villa since he arrived back in January, maybe it would be best for the Birmingham club to cut their losses with the Tanzanian and try and cash in on him.
