Aston Villa journalist David Michael has made a big claim on Villa club captain Jack Grealish.

This comes after Michael recently hosted an episode of Villa-based podcast My Old Man Said to discuss the latest news going on at the Birmingham club.

Who scored Villa's goal in their 1-0 win against Stoke City on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premier League season?

On the topic of Grealish and the future of his career, Michael shared his thoughts.

He said: “I get a feeling [Jack] Grealish will make his career by playing for a team that’s got 10 decent players and he’ll see about a third of what he sees of the ball now, but he will look better just because he’ll only need a touch here and there.

“I don’t think he’s got it to carry a team like Villa; it’s a tall order. We were talking about the midfield not doing enough and that is where our superstars are, [John] McGinn and Grealish.

“So, I mean, that tells you maybe a lot of it has been hype. There’s a bit too much hype, rather than ability, even though they’re both decent players. We’ve had them up on pedestals and [they] probably don’t quite deserve to be there.”

Is there too much hype around Jack Grealish?

TIF Thoughts…

Despite Michael’s opinions on Grealish and McGinn, the pair have statistically been Villa’s top two performers in the Premier League this season as they are the only two Villa players that have an overall season rating of above 7/10 (per WhoScored).

Despite the impressive season ratings for the Villa duo, their team still find themselves in the relegation zone of the Premier League table.

This means that not just McGinn and Grealish, but the rest of the Villa players will need to be giving their all to get some positive results in their upcoming fixtures if they want to avoid relegation this season.
