Journalist Rob Dawson joined Alexis Nunes on ESPN recently to discuss the latest Premier League transfer news and Dawson spent some time talking about the future of Arsenal attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, amid reports linking him with a move away from the Emirates with just under one year remaining on his contract with the Gunners.

Aubameyang is coming off the back of an impressive 2019/20 Premier League campaign. The forward scored 22 goals in his 36 appearances in England’s top-flight last season, ending the campaign as the joint-second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League.

Dawson shared his thoughts on £50.4m-rated Aubameyang’s future and discussed how important he believes it is for the North London club to convince him to sign a new deal at the Emirates during his recent appearance on ESPN, saying: “If Arsenal really want to push on and get to that next level of the rebuild under Mikel Arteta, he is a player that they have to tie down to a new contract.

“There aren’t many guaranteed 20-goal Premier League strikers – it’s very, very hard to find – and Aubameyang has proved that he is one of those. He would be well within his rights to look around about where’s there’s other interest.

“They won’t be in the Champions League next year – he may feel that he’s a Champions League-level striker and he wants to go and play in the Champions League, and you wouldn’t be able to blame him. I think from Arsenal’s point of view, that is a key summer signing, really.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering how many goals Aubameyang scored in England’s top-flight for the Gunners in the 2019/20 season, it may be fair to say that he played a significant role for the club and with that in mind, it may be understandable why Dawson believes that the forward would be “a key summer signing” for Arsenal if they could convince him to sign a new deal with the club.
