Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk will ‘have some money to play with’ this summer, according to Dom Howson of Yorkshire Live.

During a recent Q&A session with some of the club’s supporters, Howson responded to a question with regards to what the club may be allowed to spend in the upcoming transfer window, to which he responded:

“I think Monk will have some money to play with. If you look historically at Dejphon Chansiri’s premiership, he has always financially backed his managers in the transfer market. I don’t expect Wednesday to spend millions and millions of pounds on players, but I do believe there will be some funds available.”

The Owls currently find themselves in 14th place in the Championship, nine points adrift of the play-off positions and therefore you can argue that the squad is in need of some improvement if they are going to challenge for a top-six position next season.

TIF Thoughts…

We believe that the Hillsborough faithful can take some encouragement from the fact Howson believes Chansiri will make funds available to his manager in order for him to try and improve the team. Monk took the reins in September 2019 and has taken charge of 41 games to date; during that time, he has picked up 14 wins, 10 draws and lost on 17 occasions (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Are you confident, given the backing, Monk can improve Sheffield Wednesday next season?

Yes

No

No

On average, the Owls under Monk have picked up 1.27 points per match, which arguably needs improvement upon, and although Howson specified the club won’t be able to spend ‘millions and millions of pounds’ this summer, he appears confident that the former Birmingham City and Middlesbrough boss will have some funds available with which he may be able to begin rebuilding.
