All Leeds TV pundit Joe Wainman has been discussing the recent transfer links between Leeds United and KAA Gent midfielder Jonathan David.
According to Gent’s chairman Ivan De Witte in an interview with De Zondag, as cited by the Express, the Whites are keen on the versatile Canadian.
Despite interest from Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille, who saw a £23m bid rejected according to De Witte, Leeds are interested – but his Belgian club are after £27m for him.
In a recent video on the All Leeds TV YouTube channel – which has over 16,000 subscribers, along with a further following on Twitter of just under 10,000 – Wainman discussed the transfer links and expressed his desire to see him signed.
He said: “Of course, the big one that’s coming out at the moment is [the link with] Jonathan David from Gent. Look, their chairman has actually come out and said that Leeds United have actually tabled a bid of around £27m for the Gent star.
“There is also news coming out that he’s actually wanted by Lille, he seems to favour Lille, is what we’re led to believe, and maybe the Gent chairman is mentioning that Leeds have tabled a bid in order to drive that transfer fee up and to get Lille to part with a bit more cash.
“Look, Lille are a big club. There’s been a lot of clubs tracking Gent star Jonathan David for a good few years. Look, Lille got [Alfredo] Morelos over the line just recently from Rangers – or are due to – I believe a fee’s been agreed [and] personal terms agreed, it’s just the crossing the Ts and dotting the Is.
“If that happens, maybe Jonathan David has a chance to come to Leeds United. He’s a signing that excites me – listen I’m not going to profess to know a load about the kid but ultimately, [in] the clips that I’ve seen he looks really good.
“He’s a workhorse, and that’s what we need leading the line. In the mould of Patrick Bamford, we just need someone who can maybe take us that next step and get us the goals that we need in order to power up that Premier League table.”
