Gregor Robertson has been on the latest episode of The Times’ The Game Football Podcast, and has been discussing Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League as champions.

Nice easy one to start off with, from which club did Leeds sign Hernandez?

Robertson was full of praise for the Whites, but he did provide his view on where he thinks Leeds need to strengthen their squad.

He picked out the striker department as an area that needs improving, and this is what he had to say on Patrick Bamford:

“Bamford has never really scored in the Premier League on a consistent basis, and even to rely on him to fire them into the Premier League in the first place was touch-and-go.

“So, I think they need a striker.”

It seems as if Robertson does not think that Bamford can do a job in the Premier League and that the Whites will need to buy a striker if they are to succeed in the top flight next season.

Will Bamford perform in the Premier League?

Yes, give the lad a chance

No, need someone else in

TIF Thoughts…

Marcelo Bielsa has shown a lot of faith in Bamford this term, and the former Middlesbrough striker has only missed one league match all season.

In 44 league appearances, he has managed 16 goals, which is a decent if not spectacular return – and is his second-best tally in the Championship.

Despite this, statistics reveal that in the Premier League, he has managed just one goal in 27 appearances in spells across four different clubs.

However, now is not the time to be discussing this, and we should let Bamford enjoy his role in helping the Whites win promotion to the top flight.

We hope that Bamford is given a chance in the PL to show what he can do, and perhaps now that his career is more settled at Leeds, the striker can be a potent threat for Bielsa’s side in 2020/21.
