West Brom-focused Twitter account @WBAReport caught the attention of a lot of Baggies supporters recently after they posted a tweet linking the club with a move for Sheffield Wednesday attacker Steven Fletcher.

This tweet from @WBAReport cites TEAMtalk as the original source of this news. This comes after TEAMtalk recently published an article explaining that the Owls “are struggling” to agree on a new deal with Fletcher who is currently set to see his Wednesday contract expire at the end of June. This article goes on to state that West Brom are one of the clubs who are allegedly “ready to make a move” for the forward.

Many West Brom fans have been sharing their thoughts on this alleged transfer target in response to @WBAReport’s tweet.

A lot of Baggies fans reacted negatively to this news, with some of the club’s supporters questioning why West Brom would target Fletcher.

However, some Baggies fans shared a more positive view on this link between their club and Fletcher. Some West Brom fans stated that they wouldn’t be opposed to seeing the 33-year-old move to The Hawthorns as a back-up, whilst another Baggies supporter described Fletcher as a “class player”.

It may be fair to say that Fletcher has delivered some impressive performances for Sheffield Wednesday this term. The 33-year-old is the Owls’ top goalscorer in the Championship at present, scoring 13 league goals this season which is eight more than any other Wednesday player.

However, West Brom are currently sitting in second place on the Championship table, six points clear of third-placed Fulham who are their nearest challengers currently sitting outside of the league’s automatic promotion places.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that the Baggies are in a positive position to achieve promotion to the Premier League for next season at the moment and Fletcher hasn’t played in England’s top-flight since the 2015/16 campaign, in which he scored just four goals in 16 appearances. As a result, Fletcher might not be a wise transfer target for the Baggies should they earn promotion to the Premier League for next season.
