Many Celtic fans have been left to slate Brendan Rodgers after a post involving their former manager went viral on social media.

Rodgers was recently talking on The Beautiful Game Podcast. He was asked about his departure from Celtic back in February 2019 and he revealed that his family were ‘distraught’ when he had left Parkhead. He also said that he has some relations that haven’t spoken to him since the day he left the club.

Rodgers said that his life has been based on ‘experiences’, and that is why he looks for them.

The Daily Record posted a tweet about this recently. This caught the attention of many Celtic fans and they didn’t seem too pleased with Rodgers’ words. Two of them said that he left the club to chase money.

Does Rodgers get unwarranted criticism from Celtic fans?

Rodgers had left Parkhead for Leicester City in February 2019. He was replaced by Neil Lennon, initially on a temporary basis, but Lennon’s move back to Parkhead was made permanent at the end of the campaign.

Under Lennon this season, the Hoops have already won the Premiership title. They also won the League Cup by beating Rangers and made it to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup – which have not yet taken place (via Transfermarkt).

The post sparked a negative reaction out of many other Celtic fans, too. One said that they’ve moved on to the Lennon era now.

Rodgers had helped Celtic win two Premiership titles and as many Scottish Cups. He had also helped the Hoops win three League Cup titles prior to his departure (via Transfermarkt).

This shows that he made vital contributions to Celtic and the club’s fans should have some respect for those achievements, though it seems the nature of his exit still rankles with the Hoops fanbase.
