Some Celtic fans have been fuming at the latest comments made by Andy Halliday about the 2019/20 Premiership season.

Halliday was exclusively interviewed by PLZ Soccer’s ‘The Football Show’ recently. He talked about the 2019/20 Premiership campaign, which saw Celtic get handed the title.

Halliday said that while the Hoops were the favourites to win the title, there were two Old Firm derbies left in the campaign. He said that their Glasgow rivals have won two league titles on the last day of the season in the past and there has been a time when the Gers were seven points clear at the top but still lost in the title race. He called it a ‘never say never’ scenario, implying that Celtic may not have won the title despite their 13-point lead at the top.

Starting with an easy one: which Italian club did Nakamura join Celtic from?

These comments from Halliday were relayed on Twitter by the Daily Record. Many Celtic fans rushed to this and mocked what Halliday had to say.

Could Celtic have lost the title in the 2019-20 season?

No chance!

No chance!

You never know

Celtic were 13 points clear at the top of the table before the Premiership was suspended back in March. The Hoops had won the League Cup and had reached the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, while they had beaten the Gers twice in all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

Halliday’s comments caught the attention of many more Celtic fans. They weren’t too happy with what he said.

None of these Celtic fans seem to have positive words to say for Halliday. Considering he’s a former Rangers player and left the club only recently, one can see why Hoops fans aren’t pleased. While he is certainly entitled to his opinion, the fact that the Hoops didn’t lose a single league game in 2020 shows that there is every chance they would have gone on to win the title under normal circumstances.
