Many Celtic fans have been fuming at the latest comments that Steven Thompson recently made about the 2019/20 Premiership season.

Thompson was recently talking to the BBC in an interview (via Daily Record) and he gave his opinion about how the Premiership season was cancelled last month and how Celtic were handed the title.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

Thompson said that ‘enough time’ and ‘consideration’ wasn’t given to how the clubs voted to end the season. He believes that the authorities could have ‘squeezed’ the remaining games into the schedule instead of concluding the season.

He said: “The clubs and the SPFL board were desperate to release funds to the clubs and that was the reason everybody voted for the league to be concluded.

“I felt there was not enough time and consideration given to trying to explore every possibility to finish the season.”

Were the SPFL right to cancel the Premiership season?

Absolutely, it was the right thing!

No, we should have played

No, we should have played

The article about Thompson’s comments was relayed on Twitter by the Daily Record. Many Celtic fans though, weren’t pleased at all.

Celtic were handed the Premiership title after an SPFL board meeting had cancelled the league season in Scotland. The Hoops were 13 points clear at the top of the table and hadn’t lost a single league game in 2020. They had also won the League Cup by beating Rangers in the final (via Transfermarkt).

And many other Hoops fans also made their displeasure for Thompson clear.

These Celtic fans clearly don’t like Thompson’s stance about how the league could’ve resumed at some point. Thompson is a former Rangers player and that could be a big reason why they don’t have positive words to say about him.

Celtic had beaten the Gers twice in all competitions, with one win coming in the Premiership and the other coming in the League Cup final. Since the club hadn’t lost a single league game in 2020 (via Transfermarkt), there’s every chance they could have gone on to win the title anyway.
