Journalist Gordon Parks has recently talked about Odsonne Edouard and what the future might hold for the French striker.

On the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast, Parks was addressing multiple issues surrounding the Hoops. While doing that, the topic of Edouard was raised and the journalist has provided some positive news about the striker’s situation at Parkhead.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

In recent months, Edouard has been linked with Premier League side Leicester City. Not just the Foxes, but Arsenal and Newcastle United are also reported to be in the chase for him. Ligue 1 outfit Monaco had an approach for Edouard rejected by the Hoops.

While talking about the former Paris Saint-Germain striker though, Parks said: “It’s not an exceptional case. I think that all things being equal, if this the health crisis hadn’t arrived, Celtic would’ve got the money for him. I think there would be no question about that.”

Are you confident that Edouard will stay at Celtic?

He's staying!

Parks went on to say that while Edouard’s value might have reduced because of the pandemic, it seems likely that he indeed does stay at Parkhead for another season.

The Daily Record journalist said: “They would definitely have capitalised on expanding talent, but things have changed. I think that £30 million becomes £20 million. And football will calibrate itself again and Celtic are better waiting maybe a season.

“He could only enhance his credentials and get the money that they’re looking for, but I don’t think that £30 million exists now. I think Celtic realise that as well and I think that’s why he’s probably going to be remaining for the next season, at least.”

This is clearly very good news for Celtic fans, who would love it if Edouard ends up staying at Parkhead. Him not leaving could be a huge boost to Celtic winning the title next season too.

TIF Thoughts…

Neil Lennon recently confirmed that the club is in talks to hand Edouard a new contract. He had revealed that talks are ongoing with Edouard’s representatives and the Hoops boss even hailed the progress Edouard has made during his time at Parkhead (via Sky Sports).

The Frenchman recently won the club’s Player of the Year award as well, as he scored 27 times in all competitions. Not just that, he also racked up an impressive tally of 19 assists in the 2019/20 campaign (via Transfermarkt).

This clearly shows how and why Edouard is such a crucial player for the Hoops. The interest from the aforementioned clubs proves that he’s a highly-coveted young player and in the future, Celtic might struggle to keep him. But Parks’ update provides Celtic fans with much-needed optimism, heading into the new season regarding Edouard’s future.
