Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has been tipped to ‘leave as a legend’ by Kevin Phillips in a recent interview.

Phillips was exclusively talking to Football Insider recently and he was asked about the situation of Edouard at Celtic. The former player aired his belief that Edouard will sign a new contract at Parkhead and that he will ‘want to be a part’ of Celtic’s journey to potentially winning ten Premiership titles in a row.

Starting with an easy one: which Italian club did Nakamura join Celtic from?

Phillips said this will help Edouard to be remembered fondly by the club’s supporters but once he helps the club win the title, he can ‘leave as a legend’ in the summer of 2021.

This comes after Edouard was awarded Celtic’s Player of the Year accolade for his contributions to the club in the 2019-20 campaign. He also finished the Premiership campaign as the league’s highest scorer ahead of the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe.

Here’s exactly what Phillips had to say:

“I think he will want to be a part of the journey next season, going for 10-in-a-row. It would be a huge achievement and to be a part of that, you will always be remembered. You would be talked about as a legend.

“I certainly see that one happening. If somebody offered stupid money it could be different, but that does not look like it is going to happen at the moment. The players enjoy playing for Neil Lennon so I see that one getting over the line. He will be lining up for them next season, going for that 10-in-a-row.

“An ideal scenario – sign, play next year, get the 10 and leave as a legend next summer.”

Will Edouard leave Celtic in 2021?

TIF Thoughts…

Celtic fans would surely love it if Edouard stays for another season and helps them win the all-important title in the next campaign. The fact that he was the highest scorer in the league this season shows how crucial a player he is for the Hoops and him staying can have a huge impact on Celtic’s ability to score goals.

Neil Lennon has already made it clear that the Frenchman’s representatives are speaking to Celtic in an attempt to extend his deal at Parkhead. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2022 and extending the contract beyond that point would make sure that Celtic get good money from a potential sale.

So when Phillips says that Edouard can ‘leave as a legend’- he is quite right.
