FC Porto have reportedly set an asking price of €30 million (£27.2 million) for Jesus Corona, with the winger having been targeted by both Wolves and Everton.

According to Portuguese news outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness), the Liga NOS side have named their price for the Mexican international amidst interest from both Wolves and Everton, and won’t let him leave for anything less than his €30 million release clause. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been linked with a move for the Porto ace in the past week but it looks as if the Dragons are demanding a high price for the versatile 27-year-old.

To kick off this quiz on the goings-on with the Old Gold last week, which player were Juventus touted to have a strong interest in signing?

Sport Witness suggests that A Bola’s report also includes the claim that when negotiating a new contract with the Portuguese side, Corona insisted on a lower release clause, which may perhaps suggest that he is keen on a move away from the club this summer transfer window.

TIF Thoughts…

So far this season, Corona has enjoyed a superb season in the Liga NOS, contributing four goals and seven assists in 27 appearances; earning an impressive 7.38 average rating (per WhoScored). The Mexican has also demonstrated his versatility across the season, featuring most predominantly at right-back, whilst also playing on the wing and as a striker on occasion (per WhoScored).

Do you think Corona is worth £27 million?

Therefore, you would expect the 27-year-old to feature as a right-wing-back for Santo’s side should he join this summer, but he would presumably face competition from Matt Doherty, who has enjoyed another solid campaign for the Old Gold; earning a 6.97 rating for his performances in the top-flight (per Whoscored).

The Wanderers also brought in Luke Matheson from Rochdale in the January transfer window, and whilst the 17-year-old is perhaps unlikely to be deemed ready for regular football in the first-team, he could provide another option for the Portuguese manager at right-wing-back next season. Therefore, unless Wolves are desperate to bring in Corona this summer window, we feel that they are unlikely to match Porto’s reported asking price, especially when you consider the options they already have in that position, as well as the financial impact of the current viral outbreak.
