Supporters of West Ham United have been reacting to an injury report on the Hammers’ Italian defender Angelo Ogbonna.
According to Claret and Hugh, the centre-back has not yet fully recovered from an injury that he picked up, however, the club is hopeful that he will return in time for the Irons’ first game back against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
As stated in the report by Claret and Hugh’s club source, Ogbonna’s injury “wasn’t a serious knock” and they “expect him to be fit” when the league resumes action.
Premier League football is set to resume on 17th June and the first two games will be Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal (per West Ham).
A day prior to the announcement on the league returning, it was revealed that clubs would be allowed to resume contact training (per West Ham).
When training had initially resumed, Claret and Hugh reported that Ogbonna had been absent along with Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio.
However, in their latest report, the Hammers-based news site revealed that Ogbonna is back training although he is not fully fit.
So, after the injury update was relayed to the London Stadium faithful on social media (via @whufc_news), they aired their reactions to the report.
Angelo Ogbonna still hasn’t fully recovered from injury but the club is expecting him to be fit for the first game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday June 18.

What did he have. A broken leg? It’s been 11 weeks

Given how good Ogbonna has been this season to date, it is imperative West Ham get him as fit and available for selection as possible between now and the Wolves game in a fortnight’s time. If Ogbonna isn’t fit, West Ham have very few viable options by way of a replacement.

This season, the Italian defender has been the 10th-best performer for the club in the Premier League with a respectable 6.69/10 average rating (per WhoScored).
Hope he is fit in time. I worry will be a lot of Injuries. Hopefully they will do more cardio not weight training & play some actually football so isn’t such a shock.
But Oggy will be a huge miss if isn’t fit has been a rock at the back for us??

Is Angelo Ogbonna the best defender that the Hammers currently have?Yes, he's by far the bestNo, he's a bit overrated |
According to the player’s statistics, though, Ogbonna may have not been as impressive as some supporters believe him to have been.
In West Ham’s squad, the 32-year-old defender has made only the joint-11th-most tackles (1.3) and joint-10th-most interceptions (0.9) per league game on average.
However, after the injury report was shared to social media, some supporters were more concerned over the touted date of the game against Wolves.
So the wolves game is the Friday?
— Ian McKee (@ianmckee58) June 2, 2020
Nothing on the club website to say wolves will be on a Friday
— Steve (@irons80) June 2, 2020
As can be seen in these responses from West Ham fans, supporters are either keen for Ogbonna to be fit or confused by the reported date of the Wolves game.
With the Friday of that week being 19th June and not the 18th as was stated by Claret and Hugh as well as the fact that there has been no official date set, it is no surprise that there was confusion.
