Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to an image posted by Alasdair Gold from last season’s Champions League final against Liverpool.
The Football.london journalist posted a picture from the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, where Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side lost out 2-0 against the Reds in the Champions League final. This week marked exactly one year since the final in Madrid and the journalist wrote: “Ah man, a year ago today there was so much hope.”
Unfortunately for Pochettino, defeat in the final was followed by a disastrous start to the following season, which led to the Argentinian being sacked in November; the Lilywhites were languishing in 14th position in the Premier League (per BBC), and they were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two Colchester United.
The North London club were unable to match last year’s heroics in the Champions League this season, as Jose Mourinho’s side were comfortably knocked out of the competition by RB Leipzig in March. It also looks to be an uphill battle for the Lilywhites to secure Champions League football for next season, as they currently sit eighth in the top flight ahead of its return later this month.
Do you think Spurs will reach a CL final under Mourinho?YesNo |

The 12 months since have been a shocker on and off the pitch

Many Spurs fans took the opportunity to slam the referee from the final against Liverpool, after his decision to award Jurgen Klopp’s side a controversial penalty in the opening minutes.
Then THAT penalty. Shameful!!

Penalty ruined the final

Other Spurs fans blamed Pochettino for the defeat in Madrid.
And Poch ruined it! And then sulked in a corner by himself…

These Spurs fans clearly weren’t too keen to be reminded of the defeat from the final in Madrid, with many wanting to blame various things after failing to bring the trophy home. Hopefully, for Lilywhites fans, it won’t be too long until they are back in the final of a competition.
