In recent comments made while speaking on The Athletic’s On The Ball podcast, Michael Bailey, Norwich City reporter for the website, has claimed that Tottenham could be a “very good fit” for Canaries right-back Max Aarons.

Since being promoted to Norwich’s first team at the beginning of last season, Aarons has gone on to establish himself as the club’s first-choice right-back, making 41 Championship appearances last term, over which he scored two goals and provided six assists, with his contributions helping his side to clinch the second-tier title.

Aarons has once again impressed over his 27 Premier League appearances so far this season, despite the fact that his side currently sits bottom of the Premier League table, as well the defender averaging a surprisingly low WhoScored match rating of 6.52.

The proof that Aarons has performed better than his stats would suggest lies in the transfer interest that surrounds the 20-year-old, with both Arsenal and Tottenham being linked with the defender throughout the course of the season.

And, speaking on The Athletic’s On The Ball podcast recently, journalist Bailey suggested that Spurs would be a good fit for the England U21 international, although he raises some concerns as to whether the club could afford the player:

“Max Aarons, who’s been so supremely consistent at a high level, it’s hard not to see someone coming in for him.

“But again, who comes in for him? I think Tottenham might have been a very good fit, but if they’re in a bit of financial difficulty, are they going to want to pay top dollar that they would have to pay Norwich?”

TIF Thoughts…

It is true that Aarons would likely be a relatively pricey purchase from Norwich, as the Mirror has reported that the Canaries would be willing to accept an offer of no less than £30million for the defender, regardless of whether they stay in the top division or are relegated back to the Championship come the end of this season.

However, considering the fact that Aarons is still just 20-years-old, one would assume that he will only improve with age, meaning that, if Spurs do not make a move while the price is set at £30million, the figure may only be likely to increase in the future.
