Tottenham Hotspur journalist Charlie Eccleshare has shared the latest news surrounding Eric Dier, including his future at Spurs and his prospective ban following his FA charge which was issued back in April.

This comes after Eccleshare recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast to look at everything going on at the club at the moment.

On the topic of Dier’s future at Spurs, Eccleshare revealed this latest update.

He said: “At the moment, he’s happy at Tottenham and he gets on well with Jose Mourinho. But there’s also this doubt in the immediate term cast over him because he has this ban hanging over him, and we’re hearing there are fears that it will be longer than a couple of games.

“If he does get a long ban and he decides he wants to leave and Spurs think well, actually, they should cash in this summer, then we could be witnessing the beginning of the end. But the flip-side is his form is much improved [and] he’s starting regularly – so maybe it is the start of a resurgence for a player who rose to prominence very quickly and then maybe had a bit of a slowdown.

“It looks like he’s rising again, potentially.”

Dier’s performances in 16 Premier League appearances so far this season have earned him a season rating of 6.67/10 (per WhoScored).

However, his performance in Spurs’ recent 2-0 win over West Ham United saw him pick up an impressive match rating of 7.57/10 (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

It’s good to hear that Eccleshare has a lot of faith in Dier by claiming that he is having a resurgence in form since the league restarted again.

The hope for Dier and everyone at Tottenham now will be that the Englishman can continue this good form that he showed against West Ham and take that into Spurs’ remaining league fixtures.
