Tottenham have “shown some interest” in the West Ham United defender Jeremy Ngakia, according to @ExWHUemployee via The West Ham Way Podcast

It’s claimed that the player has told the club “he’s not going to play beyond his current contract, which is the 30th June” therefore an exit is very much on the cards for the 19-year-old and Spurs, along with Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in the young right-back.

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

London-born Ngakia has made four appearances in the Premier League for the Hammers this season, his most recent coming in the defeat at Arsenal just before the competition was suspended due to the global pandemic.

It’s understood the player’s agent and the club disagree on what he is worth (as per The West Ham Way), opening the door for the likes of Tottenham to take advantage of the situation.

Do you see right-back as an area in which Spurs need to strengthen?

TIF Thoughts…

Although the sample size is small, Ngakia’s average performance rating when he has appeared in the top-flight this season currently stands at 6.6/10 (via WhoScored.com). Compare that to Serge Aurier’s rating of 7.18, Ngakia’s is lower but given he would be available on a free transfer and has plenty of time to develop, Spurs may feel it is worth taking a gamble.

Beyond the Ivorian, Jose Mourinho’s only other recognised right-back is Kyle Walker-Peters who was sent out on loan to Southampton in January which suggests the Portuguese coach is not convinced of his ability to play that role for the Lilywhites.

Ngakia’s contract is due to expire in a matter of weeks and it’s claimed Spurs are ready to pounce, however, only time will tell whether or not the North London club will make their move for the player.
