The Athletic’s Southampton journalist Carl Anka has issued an update about Kyle Walker-Peters and his future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Anka was recently present on The Athletic’s ‘The Ornstein & Chapman’ podcast. He was asked about the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and his links with Spurs.

While talking about the Danish midfielder, Anka revealed that Walker-Peters’ future at Spurs could be tied to what the Saints do with Hojbjerg.

With Hojbjerg being linked with a move to the Lilywhites, Anka revealed that the Dane’s future does depend on Spurs’ finances. He said the same for Everton and their finances, as they too have been linked with the midfielder.

But Anka tied Walker-Peters into this and said: “There are certain variables in Kyle Walker-Peters from Spurs, who is currently on loan at Southampton. This could affect things and sway things further in Spurs’ favour, if they wished to spend that sort of money on Hojbjerg.

Should Spurs sell Walker-Peters to sign Hojbjerg?

TIF Thoughts…

Walker-Peters arrived at Southampton on from loan from Spurs in the January of 2020, after having made only three Premier League appearances for Tottenham in the 2019/20 season. He also featured in their Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. But the numbers show that he was far from being a regular.

Since arriving at Southampton, Walker-Peters has played just one league game and that appearance came in a 2-1 defeat to Burnley (via Transfermarkt).

While the defender hasn’t played much, Walker-Peters didn’t make a single Premier League appearance for Spurs under Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese was appointed as the Spurs boss in November 2019 and numbers suggest that he doesn’t see Walker-Peters as a right-back option for the side.

Walker-Peters is still 23 and Spurs could get a decent fee from a potential sale, with the right-back currently valued at £7.2 million by Transfermarkt. So selling Walker-Peters to Southampton to potentially sign Hojbjerg could turn out to be a good deal for the Lilywhites.
