Premier League side Southampton are reportedly set to lose midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer transfer window.

TalkSPORT recently reported that it is likely that Hojbjerg leaves the club this summer, with the Saints looking for a fee of £35 million for the midfielder. The report claims that Southampton are now ‘resigned’ to losing the Danish midfielder.

The same report also carried exclusive quotes from journalist Alex Crook, who confirmed that Southampton indeed have put a price tag of £35 million on Hojbjerg and that Tottenham, Everton and Leicester City are interested in the midfielder. But the reporter also said that the 33-cap Dane will leave only if clubs meet Southampton’s asking price for Hojbjerg.

TIF Thoughts…

In recent weeks, Hojbjerg has talked about his desire to play football at a higher level. In the interview with Sport1 (via The Evening Standard), the Dane also talked about his desires to win the Champions League and the Premier League in his career.

Football Insider also reported that Hojbjerg has rejected Southampton’s offer of a contract extension and he has now joined Pini Zahavi’s stable of players. They claim that this is a ‘clear sign’ that he is attempting to seal a move away from St. Mary’s soon.

This shows that Hojbjerg might already be looking to leave Southampton soon. His current deal at the club runs out in the summer of 2021 and with the player refusing to sign a new contract, Southampton would not want to lose the player on a free transfer. So letting him go at this point would make sense for the Saints.
