Supporters of Newcastle United have been reacting to a report which revealed that an MP has urged the government to block the takeover of the Toon.
As reported by Chronicle Live, the MP Angus MacNeil has called upon the UK government to block the Saudi Arabia-led takeover of the north-east club.
He states that Saudi Arabia should have ‘no role’ in the future of UK sport and has requested that the government intervenes.
The reaction from MacNeil came after the World Trade Organisation’s report into piracy regarding illegally broadcasting sporting events was released.
However, when the report on the MP’s letter was shared to social media by @NUFC360, lots of Newcastle fans aired their reactions to it.
Saudi Arabia should have 'no role' in the future of UK sport according to one member of parliament as he urges the government to intervene and block the Newcastle United takeover. #nufc https://t.co/YJpVyoD2vw

There already involved with Sheffield and Man United. And by this logic we should have accepted the Millions of Pounds worth of PPE they have given us in the last 3 months…

Bit late for that. Maybe he should have said that before they got involved with Sheff Utd and Man Utd if that’s really how he feels

The report from the WTO that was released earlier this week concluded that Saudi Arabia did not do enough to combat the illegal broadcasting of sporting events.
Do you think the UK government will get involved in the takeover of Newcastle? No, not going to happenYes, anything is possible |
Where was all of these rules when they bought Man City & Sheff Utd. Don’t start moving the goal posts.

What on earth is this? Its ok to sell arms to them and to encourage investment, but not football. This is nonsense, it really is.

Furthermore, in writing to the government, MacNeil stated that the government had ‘actively avoided the issue‘ by stating that it was a sole matter for the Premier League to decide.
However, supporters of the Toon continued airing their fury over what the MP had urged the UK government to do.
Yeah because the government always know what they’re talking about?

There is no way in hell the goverment would do that. Be no deals between the countries if they did

As can be seen in these responses from the St. James’ Park faithful, it seems that many are frustrated with the suggestion that the government should intervene, but believe there is little chance of them doing so.
