A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a tweet from NUFC 360, which has relayed quotes from Steve McClaren on the proposed takeover of the Toon.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

McClaren, speaking to TalkSPORT (0:42), suggested that the potential new owners might come in and cut the budget and not rescue the club.

However, he did follow this up by saying that nobody knows what they have planned (0:50), but the fact he suggested that the potential new owners could cut the budget annoyed these Toon fans.

PIF, the company that intends to take an 80% stake in Newcastle United, have some major wealth backing them – so judging by this, it is unlikely that they will be cutting the budget should their takeover go through.

Do you value McClaren's opinion?

However, the former Newcastle boss is right in saying that nobody knows (0:50) what might happen, but that has still not stopped these Toon fans from slating him.

The deal for Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium is still with the Premier League going through the required checks after a deposit was paid to Mike Ashley in April.

However, we are now in June and still no further forward with concerns over piracy in Saudi Arabia really causing some problems.

It seems the Premier League want Saudi Arabia to make some concessions before agreeing to their takeover of the Toon.

These are likely to include shutting down BeoutQ and unblocking beIN Sports in the country.

Matt Slater believes that a deal can be reached (44:20), which should allow the takeover to go through but the Saudis must give some ground.

If this happens and the takeover is accepted, then we can see what they decide to do, but until that happens, we feel it is pretty pointless speculating on what these potential new owners might do.
