A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from NUFC 360, which includes quotes from Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Tebas, speaking to Spanish radio station RAC1, mentioned the upcoming transfer market and claimed that ‘Manchester City, PSG or Newcastle can animate the market’ (via the Evening Chronicle).

This is an interesting comment, and considering City’s owners are worth £23.3bn and PSG’s are worth £6.5bn, it made some Toon fans think Tebas knows something that perhaps they don’t.

Do you think Tebas knows something?

Newcastle are in the middle of a proposed takeover, which, if passed, will see the Toon backed by some major wealth.

However, the deal is currently awaiting the Premier League’s approval and has been ever since Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium paid a deposit to Mike Ashley.

Concerns over piracy have caused huge issues, and there have been suggestions that Saudi Arabia would have to make some concessions before their takeover was allowed by the PL.

Bloomberg recently reported that some Saudi cafes had started showing BeIN Sports again following the controversy involving BeoutQ – so perhaps some of these concessions are now happening?

Certainly, Tebas’ comments are intriguing.

They suggest that Newcastle might be a major player in the transfer market this summer, which would imply that the Premier League will approve their takeover.

However, despite some Toon fans thinking Tebas knows something, others have criticised him.

The La Liga president was one of those who previously spoke out against this takeover, and it seems as if many Toon fans have not forgotten this with their reaction to his comments.

Either way, though, these are interesting comments from Tebas, and it will be interesting to see if we do get some sort of announcement on the takeover soon.
