Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The article claims that according to reports originally published in the Daily Mirror (14/06, p72), Newcastle are lining up a bid for Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso.

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Newcastle fans who were quick to share their thoughts on this latest piece of transfer news.

Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans responding to the post:

The 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £18 million according to Transfermarkt, first arrived at Chelsea back in 2016 (per Transfermarkt).

Would you like to see Newcastle sign Alonso this summer?

Since then, the full-back has gone on to make 140 appearances for the London club in which he has managed to score 22 goals and provide 17 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

This season for Frank Lampard’s side, Alonso has been Chelsea’s best performer for his performances in his 11 Premier League appearances, resulting in the Spaniard being awarded a season rating of 7.49/10 (per WhoScored).

Now that it has been reported that Newcastle could be looking to bring Alonso to St. James’ Park this summer, this sparked a big reaction on Twitter with many Toon fans sharing their thoughts on the matter.

Alonso did spend some time with the Toon’s rivals Sunderland, so that could explain some of the anger directed at the idea of the Chelsea man moving to Tyneside.

However, there was one Newcastle fan who was rather positive about this potential transfer.

It appears that the majority of these Newcastle fans are very much against seeing Alonso make the move to St. James’ Park.

With Alonso’s impressive performances in the Premier League so far this season, you would think that Chelsea would be looking to keep hold of him and not sell him to a fellow Premier League side like Newcastle.
