Many Newcastle United supporters have been responding to an update regarding the takeover, which has been provided by The Athletic’s George Caulkin via his Twitter account.

According to The Telegraph, the authorities began their checks around 9 April and indicated it is a process that can take up to four weeks. However, we are now in June and there is still no word on whether or not they have reached their conclusion.

To kick things off, who is this man from the 2009/10 season?

When asked by a supporter of the club whether or not Amanda Staveley and her consortium were in contact with the Premier League, Caulkin replied: ‘Everyone is frustrated. But yes they are. They’ve been answering further PL questions this week.’

Here is how a sample of the St. James’ Park faithful have responded to his comments on Twitter.

Are you concerned the takeover will collapse?

It’s clear from the variety of responses that this is an extremely complex case, and so perhaps we shouldn’t be shocked to see the process delayed. The Saudi-backed consortium have faced much opposition to their proposed acquisition of the club from one of the Premier League’s broadcast partners BeIN Sports and a number of the league’s stakeholders, amongst others.

However, one supporter was more optimistic in regards to the situation and believes the end of Mike Ashley’s reign is imminent. Meanwhile, another was worried that the events which saw the Bin Zayed Group fail to take control of the club last summer are about to repeat themselves.

Judging by George Caulkin’s comments, in which he claims there has been communication between the prospective owners and the Premier League, in our view, that should be seen as an encouraging sign. It could be a case of the powers that be requiring further substantiation regarding certain issues as a result of the opposition the deal has been faced with. It could be seen as negligent if the authorities were to fail to investigate some of the raised concerns thoroughly but we don’t believe there is any need for panic just yet.
