Image for Newcastle United: Fans flock to relayed image

Supporters of Newcastle United have been flocking to an image which was relayed to them on social media.

On Monday afternoon, @RedRoseMichelle quote tweeted an image of a response from the Independent regarding a complaint about one of their writers.

The Newcastle fan’s tweet stated: ‘Re: Miguel Delaney’.

In the image of the response from the Independent, the news outlet looked to condemn the tweets which were posted by their writer, Miguel Delaney, and stated that they had all been deleted.

The tweets which were called into question by Newcastle supporters from @MiguelDelaney saw the journalist discuss the ‘sportswashing in action’ surrounding the Saudi Arabian government and their involvement in the takeover of the Toon (via @danny_hardy18).

So, following @RedRoseMichelle‘s tweet, lots of Newcastle supporters flocked to it to air their opinions on the matter.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Delaney’s initial tweet had shared a screenshot of a post from the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Dominic Raab in which he thanked Saudi Arabia for donating ‘hundreds of thousands of medical gowns’ to the NHS (via @danny_hardy18).

The Independent journalist then made the comment that the former German and Italian dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini ‘made the trains run on time’.

In a later tweet, Delaney mentioned sportswashing amongst Newcastle supporters due to their complaints about his tweet and them ‘trying to get me [Delaney] sacked’ (via @danny_hardy18).

Do you think what Miguel Delaney originally tweeted was wrong?

Yes, it was out of order

No, he had a point

Back in April, Delaney wrote an article for the Independent in which he discussed the supposed ‘sportswashing’ further in which similar views were shared by others.

However, Newcastle fans continued airing their fury with the journalist.

However, one supporter was more lenient towards the journalist.

As can be seen in the majority of these responses from Newcastle supporters, though, a lot of the St. James’ Park faithful were furious with the Independent journalist’s tweets.
