Supporters of Newcastle United have been flocking to a Twitter post from broadcast journalist Pete Graves on the club’s prospective takeover.
On Monday, one supporter asked Graves if he had any updates for ‘exhausted’ Toon fans who were awaiting news on if the takeover would be going through.
The journalist then stated that he was ‘equally exhausted’ and that the situation has been ‘mad tough’ on supporters and the club’s staff alike.
However, he then reiterated his belief that the takeover will be going through as he stated: “I still firmly believe it’ll happen and also that it won’t be much longer.”
This then led to lots of responses from the St. James’ Park faithful on social media.
Equally exhausted bud. The wait's been mad tough on all #nufc fans & also on the club employees who've no idea what their future looks like, in these already tough times! I still firmly believe it'll happen and also that it won't be much longer. X https://t.co/pMWV4sDSrF

Thanks Pete, we need your reassuring words. We are exasperated after 13 years of having all hope extinguished. Please EPL put us out of our misery

Various takeover talks have been rumbling on surrounding the Toon for over a year now (per The Shields Gazette), leaving fans keen for it to be concluded.
I’m not sure I have any faith left ?

Enough hope right there for me Pete ???

The current potential takeover saga has been rolling on since late January after Amanda Staveley returned with interest being backed by PIF, the Saudi royals’ investment portfolio.
Do you believe the takeover of Newcastle United will happen within the next two weeks?YesNo |
However, many Toon fans were calmed by the journalist’s faith that things will be resolved soon.
The longer this goes on the more likely is that it’s going to happen. It tells me that people are talking with obstacles being negotiated and the fact that no information is being ‘leaked’ is also comforting as it’s obviously important to all parties. #cans will be soon enough.

Other Newcastle supporters were less positive following the tweet, though.
Sadly I’ve given up on it .. if it was to have been it would have happened by now. It’s just our destiny never to be the club we should be

Hope I’m wrong, but i don’t see this happening. Gone on far to long now. And how many times have we been blagged and misled from Ashley and “those in the know”

As can be seen in these responses from lots of Newcastle supporters, they are clearly split over whether the takeover of the club will be happening or not.
