Duncan Castles, speaking on the latest episode of The Transfer Window podcast with Ian McGarry, has revealed that the buying side in the proposed takeover of Newcastle United has been given indications that the Premier League are close to making a decision.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Here is what he had to say about this situation:

“[I] said last week that the indications coming from the Premier League were that they were close to making a decision.

“Talking to someone involved in the bid today – he said they have had indications from the lawyers and from Newcastle United that is indeed the case, and they’re hoping to get the decision very soon.

“They certainly don’t understand why it should take much longer, as they’ve answered all of the questions that have been put to them from the Premier League.”

It seems as if the deal that will see Mike Ashley sell the Toon to Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium could be edging closer – or the buying side certainly believes it is.

Do you think a decision is getting closer?

Yes, I can feel it

Yes, I can feel it

No, it is going to drag on

TIF Thoughts…

Castles confirms earlier in the podcast that we are now into more than 10 weeks of this takeover process, and it has been suggested that is the longest amount of time the Premier League has ever spent on a takeover.

However, an announcement by Saudi Arabia to crack down on piracy and a letter sent to major sports bodies confirming the country’s intention to take responsibility for piracy have apparently swayed the Premier League, and a decision from them is thought to be expected in the coming days.

The buying side feels like it has done everything required of them, and Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope believes that the Premier League is going to accept this deal.

So, hopefully, this saga is coming to a conclusion soon.
