Chris Waugh has been speaking on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne, relaying the news that there are two American groups interested in acquiring Newcastle United if the Premier League rejects this Saudi-backed deal.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The Athletic reporter stated that Henry Winter believes there is ‘another American-based party interested’ as well as Henry Mauriss, ‘who has been linked a lot recently’.

Waugh confirmed that he has not got ‘any specific information to back up or deny that.’

However, he insists that ‘focus is very much on the Amanda Staveley bid.’

Here is what Waugh said in full:

“Henry Mauriss has been linked a lot recently, there was another report the other day from Luke Edwards in the Telegraph.

“Henry Winter at The Times has suggested there is another American-based party interested. I haven’t got any specific information to back up or deny that.

“I don’t know if George [Caulkin] has anything more on that, but at the moment, the focus is very much on the Amanda Staveley bid.”

Do you think there are two other bids waiting?

No, this is the only one

Yes, there are others that can save us from Ashley

TIF Thoughts…

It seems that should Staveley’s takeover bid fail, there are other options waiting in the background with Mauriss’ bid now publicised and this other party as yet unnamed.

However, the focus should be on the current deal as a deposit has been paid to Mike Ashley, and the deal is with the Premier League going through the required checks.

Issues over piracy in Saudi Arabia and, in particular, a direct link between the Saudi government and BeoutQ have presented the Premier League with some serious problems.

Matt Slater suggested that for the Premier League to pass this takeover, the Saudis could have to make some concessions.

If they don’t, then the deal could fail, and supposedly there would be two willing buyers ready to step in and take Newcastle from Ashley.

If Staveley’s bid does fail, then it would be interesting to see if anyone else steps in.
