Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has reportedly ‘moved on’ from the club, as per a report from The Athletic.

The Athletic recently published an article from Chris Waugh which discusses the current situation of the North East club. The report states that while Ashley ‘remains’ the owner of the Magpies, many associated with the club believe that he has already ‘moved on’ from Newcastle United.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The article questioned who is ‘judging’ Steve Bruce currently, with a potential takeover still waiting in the wings. The report claimed that Ashley has ‘moved on’ from the club, however, the article does say that the club’s managing director, Lee Charnley, doesn’t need any more convincing about Bruce at this point.

This comes after the Magpies picked up a convincing 3-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend, as Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton and Matt Ritchie scored the goals. Under Steve Bruce, the club is now at 13th place in the Premier League and only two points behind 10th placed Arsenal.

TIF Thoughts…

Waugh’s article could come as an encouragement for the Newcastle fans, who would hope to see the unpopular owner Ashley depart the club soon. The Saudi takeover had initially come under scrutiny after the World Trade Organisation had ruled that the Saudi state had breached intellectual property rights by supporting a piracy service that illegally streamed football matches. More recently, it has been reported that the Saudi state has now announced a major crackdown on illegally streaming sports events.

So clearly, things now seem to be moving in the right direction for the club. Fans can only hope that the takeover is completed soon and they actually see Ashley leave the club.
