Dom Howson has been discussing the future of Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk during a recent Q&A session with some of the club’s supporters. The Owls held promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest to a draw at Hillsborough on Saturday as both sides returned to the field for the first time since the league’s suspension.

Monk took the reins at Sheffield Wednesday back in September 2019, but the club find themselves in a disappointing league position of 15th at present, and on the subject of the 41-year-old’s future, Howson had this to say: “Owner Dejphon Chansiri gave his public backing to Monk before we went into lockdown, stressing Monk has his ‘100 per cent support’. Nothing has changed since then. But the fact is, Monk is on a rolling contract with Wednesday and could do with stringing a few results together to silence his critics.

“The wheels well and truly came off after Christmas. Some of their performances and results were very poor. Forest was a big improvement and will hopefully give the team some renewed confidence and belief heading into the run-in.”

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

TIF Thoughts…

Monk has taken charge of 36 matches to date, winning 12, drawing 10 and losing 14 – averaging 1.28 points per game so far (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). There are likely to be wholesale changes in terms of his playing staff this summer with a number of players’ contracts due to expire at the end of the season.

Would you like to see Garry Monk continue as boss next season?

Whether or not Dejphon Chansiri will trust the former Leeds United boss with the task of rebuilding a new squad in South Yorkshire remains to be seen. Wednesday will face Bristol City next, and although it appears likely they will avoid relegation without even breaking a sweat, in our view, this is almost like an audition for Monk in order to earn the right to continue at the helm next season.
