A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to a tweet from Luke Edwards after he suggested that Mike Ashley has not spoken to Steve Bruce to provide any update on the takeover saga.

To kick things off, who is this man from the 2009/10 season?

This comes after NUFC Gallowgate relayed news from Duncan Castles (via The Transfer Window podcast), who claimed that the potential new owners of the Toon want to speak to Bruce to discuss the players whose contracts expire this month, but Ashley will not give them permission. (12:28).

This prompted Edwards to confirm that Ashley hasn’t spoken to Bruce, either.

This has drawn the attention of these Toon fans, who have ripped into Ashley.

Do you feel sorry for Bruce in this situation?

Yes, he has the right to know what is going on

No, he knew what he was signing up for

Edwards claims that Bruce has heard nothing from Ashley and Castles believes (12:28) that Bruce hasn’t been allowed to speak to the potential new owners – so it all seems to be a bit of a mess.

The potential new owners Castles was referring to are Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium that is waiting for the Premier League to finish their required checks after they paid a deposit to Ashley.

However, this happened in April and we are now in June, seemingly with no further progress having been made, and Premier League chief executive Richard Masters’ comments in an interview with Sky Sports hardly inspire confidence that there will be a resolution to this soon.

Certainly, one Toon fan finds this whole situation odd, while another has no sympathy for Bruce.

A couple of fans even had their say on Castles’ claim.

It seems strange that Bruce is not allowed to speak to anyone (12:28) but has received no word from the current owner.

This could be even more frustrating because Matty Longstaff’s deal is among those that are set to run out at the end of this month, and he has supposedly received a contract offer of £30,000 per week from Udinese.

However, if the potential owners can’t speak to Bruce to sort out this and other players’ deals, then what can they do about it? (12:28)

Hopefully, the Premier League make a decision soon to end this state of limbo that Newcastle find themselves in.
