According to a report, Bayern Munich are looking to apply pressure on Manchester City, regarding the German giant’s pursuit of Leroy Sane.

A recent report in Sport Bild (via Sport Witness) has claimed that the Bundesliga champions want to pay €40million (£35.8million) for the 24-year-old winger, while the Premier League side feel that Bayern’s offer is ‘too little’ for them to accept.

However, the report goes on to claim that Bayern are ‘setting up a scenario’ to create pressure on Pep Guardiola’s side, as the fact that Sane’s contract expires next summer means City face the options of either accepting a bid for the player now or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.

TIF Thoughts…

Since joining City from Schalke for a fee of £46.8million back in 2016, Sane has gone on to make 134 appearances for the club, scoring 39 goals and providing 45 assists, helping his side to win two Premier League titles.

Although Sane had yet to feature in the Premier League before the unexpected break from this season, his form in City’s domestic and European campaigns last year shows why Bayern are so keen to sign the 24-year-old.

Over his 31 appearances in the league, Sane scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.26.

He impressed even more in City’s Champions League run, scoring four goals and providing four assists in just eight fixtures, averaging a match rating of 7.52.

As such, despite Bayern’s reported instance on not wanting to pay more than €40million (£35.8million) for Sane, it could be argued that he may well be worth hanging on to for one more year, regardless of the fact that he will then likely leave for nothing next summer.
