Marcelo Brozovic would “really fit well” into Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team, according to Serie A writer Chloe Beresford. Speaking on a transfer special of the Blood Red podcast, Beresford was full of praise for the Croatian international, who according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, is currently valued at £43.2m.

She went on to describe the development of the player, highlighting that it was his former boss Luciano Spaletti who decided to move Brozovic into a deeper role and claimed he has gone from an “average midfielder” to “the lynchpin in the way Inter work”.

Beresford stated (as per Daily Star):

“Spalletti came up with the idea of dropping him deeper in the midfield – more of a holding player, but more as a playmaker. Brozovic was an average midfielder before that but now he is the lynchpin in the way Inter work.

“He is tough and protects the defence really well, but his distribution is really accurate. Chelsea’s Jorginho played a similar role for Napoli – the midfield metronome that keeps everything ticking.

“He is tougher than that and he has that mindset of being able to win the ball back and then recover and play an accurate pass – everything goes through him.”

She added: “He is no-nonsense, but he is also talented and has scored some decent goals. With the way that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp play, he would be someone who could really fit well into that system. He would certainly be worth a decent sum of money.”

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

The 27-year-old has started 88% of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A games this season, contributing three goals and four assists in 23 appearances so far (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). Brozovic signed permanently for the Italian giants in July 2016 from Dinamo Zagreb in a deal reportedly worth £4.5m and having established himself as a regular, he was also a part of the Croatia squad that made it to the 2018 World Cup final.

TIF Thoughts…

Liverpool currently have plenty of central-midfield options at their disposal and so although Brozovic may be a good fit, in our view, it seems unlikely the Anfield giants would be willing to pay the player’s reported £52m release clause.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were heavily linked with a move for RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, however, it has since been reported that the German international is Chelsea-bound after the Reds decided against meeting the player’s release clause, which could suggest they may not be looking to invest heavily this summer.

Brozovic has certainly impressed this season – according to WhoScored.com, he has been Inter’s second-most consistent performer only behind Romelu Lukaku in Serie A. His average performance rating in the Italian top flight currently stands at an impressive 7.24/10.

In our view, all of the above suggests he’d be a good addition to most teams, however, it remains unknown how the global pandemic will impact the upcoming transfer window, so a huge deal for the player seems unlikely.
