Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly cancelled a potential transfer deal for Brazilian winger Alex Teixeira back in 2016.

This comes after Liverpool journalist James Pearce revealed on a recent episode of The Red Agenda podcast (12.20) that Klopp “pulled the plug” on a potential deal for Teixeira claiming that the proposed deal was “ridiculous” and that the Brazilian was not worth the money that was being offered to him by the Merseyside club.

At the time, the BBC reported that the club were willing to spend “about £24.5m” for the player, which would have made him Klopp’s first signing at the club.

However, the Brazilian instead moved from Shakhtar Donetsk in February 2016 to Chinese side Jiangsu Suning, where he currently plays, for a fee of £45 million (per Transfermarkt)

Since then, the 30-year-old, who is currently valued at £12.15 million according to Transfermarkt, has gone on to make 133 appearances for the Chinese club in which he has managed to score 63 goals and provide 38 assists (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

The fact that Klopp said no to a deal for Teixeira that the club had in place just goes to show that he is not the type of manager to throw money at players like it’s nothing just for the sake of it.

With the Reds currently the reigning Champions League holders and sat 25 points ahead at the top of the Premier League table, it doesn’t seem like this collapsed deal for Teixeira has had any lasting effect on Klopp or his team.
