The Athletic’s Michael Cox has recently been praising Liverpool’s recent transfers and how they have all come together to form Jurgen Klopp’s current high-flying side.

Liverpool currently have the second-most valuable team in the world at the moment, beating the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich according to Transfermarkt’s market valuations.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Now, in a recent episode of the Ornstein & Chapman podcast, Cox has shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s recent signings from the past few years.

He said: “The thing I like about them is, I’d say with the exception of Alisson, they probably haven’t gone out and bought an established world-class player from a really top side that you knew was going to be a title winner.

“Okay, [Virgil] van Dijk was a lot of money, but he was playing for a mid-table Southampton side. They’ve picked up some really, really good bargains.

“[Georginio] Wijnaldum came from a relegated side, [Andy] Robertson came from a relegated side, [Xherdan] Shaqiri obviously is not always in the XI, but he came from a relegated side.

“They’ve just built their team really, really intelligently over a period of five or six years. As someone who has never seen Liverpool win the league because it’s been a while, I’ve just really enjoyed watching them.

“There’s been a few games this season where I’ve sat down to watch and I’ve almost thought, ‘why am I watching this?’ There’s no tension here, Liverpool are going to win, they’re going to win the league. And the reason I’m watching is I just really enjoy watching the players.”

TIF Thoughts…

The fact that this current Liverpool squad is so highly valued compared to lots of other huge clubs across Europe’s big leagues just goes to show how well the club has operated in the transfer market in recent years.

With Liverpool currently the reigning Champions League holders and currently standing way out in front at the top of the Premier League table, this proves just how well the team works together under Klopp.
