James Pearce, who covers Liverpool for The Athletic, recently conducted a Q&A in which the reporter provided an update on the fitness of both Joel Matip and James Milner.

As per Liverpool’s official website, both Matip and Milner were ‘forced from the field with knocks’ during Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Merseyside rivals Everton last weekend.

This article also shares some comments from Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who insisted that he was hopeful that neither of the two players had suffered serious injuries in the Merseyside derby.

Following their fitness issues stemming from last Sunday’s clash with Everton, both players sat out Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday

One Liverpool supporter took the opportunity to ask Reds-focused journalist Pearce if he could provide ‘any update on Matip and Milner’ during his recent Q&A, to which the reporter replied: “Klopp is hopeful they’ll be available for [Manchester] City away.”

TIF Thoughts…

Pearce’s update may provide Liverpool fans with a positive indication that neither of the two Reds players’ injuries are particularly serious. Liverpool are set to take on Manchester City away from home in their next Premier League fixture on Thursday 2nd July

That match will be a meeting between the Premier League’s top two and with that in mind, it may be fair to say that it would be a particularly big boost for Liverpool to have as many players as possible available for selection in what could be a difficult test, so this update on Milner and Matip may be met with joy from Reds supporters.
