Some Liverpool fans have been talking about the latest transfer news linking them with a move for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio recently reported about Liverpool’s interest in signing the Frenchman. It was revealed that in recent days, the Reds made a bid to loan Dembele with an option to buy, but the report went on to state that Dembele wants to stay at Camp Nou. It was also stated that negotiations involving Juventus and Dembele are about to ‘take off’ and the player is ‘tempted’ by a move to Italy.

The news about Liverpool’s bid was relayed on Twitter by LFC Transfer Room. It caught the attention of many Reds fans and some of them didn’t feel too happy about this.

Should Liverpool avoid signing Dembele because of his injury record?

No, sign him!

The 2019/20 season saw Dembele make only nine appearances in all competitions for the Catalans. He played only five La Liga games, scoring once, while he failed to directly contribute to a single goal in four Champions League appearances (via Transfermarkt).

Like the Liverpool fans above, many other Reds fans felt that the club shouldn’t go forward with this move. They made their negative opinions very clear.

Some Liverpool fans are quick to point out Dembele’s injury issues. They are right to do so, with the former Borussia Dortmund man missing 68 games due to injury since the start of the 2017/18 campaign up until the recurrence of a hamstring injury, which has kept him out since February (via Transfermarkt).

While he has scored 19 goals and has assisted 17 times in 74 appearances for Barcelona, his injury record is a concerning one. It isn’t a good sign for Liverpool and the club’s fans should be glad that Dembele isn’t looking to join Liverpool and reportedly wants to stay at Barcelona.
