During an exclusive interview with The Athletic, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner revealed that the club’s new training ground in Kirkby is “nearing completion”.

The Anfield club’s new facility has been described on their website as ‘world-class’ and will have three pitches, dedicated goalkeeping and warm-up areas separating two of the pitches and an outdoor sports area with a full-size tennis court, artificial grass head tennis court, a large artificial grass training area, two padel tennis courts and a beach volleyball court (via Liverpool).

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

It’s understood that the playing surfaces have been designed to mirror that at Anfield as closely as possible with the inclusion of undersoil heating as well as the floodlights. The facility is due to open this year although no official date has been provided by the club. It was hoped Jurgen Klopp’s side would be able to begin their pre-season training there in July but due to the global pandemic, construction was brought to a halt in March.

TIF Thoughts…

The Reds have recently been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in their history and whilst their progress on the field is clear for all to see, they’re clearly making huge strides off of it with the new facility “nearing completion” and the plans for a £60m redevelopment of the Anfield Road stand remain intact despite all that has occurred in recent months according to the chairman.

In our view, FSG has overseen wonderful progress at the club. Klopp’s Reds are the reigning European champions, the Premier League winners and with the developments to their playing and training facilities either planned or ongoing, we believe there is much reason for optimism as a Liverpool fan.
