Liverpool journalist Theo Squires has been sharing his thoughts on Reds midfielder Adam Lallana and how he will be used in the remaining Premier League games for the newly-crowned champions.

This comes after Squires recently made an appearance on the latest episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast to discuss everything going on at the Merseyside club at the moment.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the topic of Lallana, Squires shared his thoughts on the Englishman.

He said: “I can’t really see him getting many minutes out between now and the end of the season.

“He’s been a great servant for Liverpool over the years, and it’s just a shame for him that he’s had so many injuries in the last couple of seasons. But it’s important to remember his contribution for setting them on their way in 2016/17. He scored so many important goals, obviously scored against Middlesbrough on the last day of the season to book Champions League football, and Liverpool have grown without him.

“If Liverpool weren’t as good as they are, he’d have probably had more game time – you can say the same for Xherdan Shaqiri – they’re big fan favourites, but of course, [Liverpool are] so good now that they can’t have these inconsistent players who don’t quite perform to that level week in, week out.

“But Lallana is a player who has never complained about his role in the squad, whether he’s on the bench or when he was playing as this leader of the press, as he was originally under [Jurgen] Klopp. And he’s actually the number six in this deep role. He’s just a footballer who loves playing football. And I think fans will be happy to see him move on and hopefully find a club where he can be playing week in, week out and be this star performer for them.”

A few weeks ago, the official Liverpool website announced that Lallana would be leaving the Merseyside club at the end of this season after signing a short contract extension.

During his time as a Liverpool player, Lallana has made 178 total appearances in which he has managed to score 22 goals and provide 22 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Despite Squires’ claims that Lallana might not get that many minutes playing for Liverpool between now and the end of the season, it’s clear that he has a lot of admiration for the midfielder and what he’s given the club during his time there.
