Details of the contract that has been offered to Brazilian defender Thiago Silva by Merseyside club Everton have emerged.

It was revealed by L’Equipe last week that Paris Saint-Germain would not be offering the centre-back a new deal and he would be released at the end of this month.

Since then, various outlets have linked the 35-year-old with a move to the Toffees on a free transfer (via Express).

So, on the latest episode of The Transfer Window podcast, Ian McGarry revealed the details of the Goodison Park club’s contract offer to Silva.

We'll start easy for this Everton kits quiz, which shirt sponsor did the Toffees announce that their partnership with would be being brought to a premature end earlier this season?

He said: “We have information that, of all clubs, Everton are ahead in the race to sign the Brazil international.

“He has been offered a two-year deal, which consists of one year plus a one-year extension which will be triggered by a 25-appearance clause in the first season of his contract.

“We understand also that they are willing to offer him around €4m (£3.6m) net, in terms of his salary; which doesn’t quite get up to where he is at the moment with Paris Saint-Germain, but at 35, I’m sure not so bad.

“Clearly, Carlo Ancelotti wants a commanding and a very experienced presence in his central defence.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, judging from what the in-the-know journalist stated, it seems that Everton are intent on securing the signature of the defender from PSG.

This season, Silva made 30 appearances in all competitions for his current Ligue 1 club (per Transfermarkt), which would go to show that he is capable of reaching the supposed 25-appearance clause.

Do you think it is a fair contract offer that the Toffees have supposedly given to Thiago Silva?

Yes, he should sign that

No, it's not enough

No, it's not enough

However, due to the fact the defender is 36 in September, it would seem a shrewd move by the club to include the clause in his contract.

With 21 of those 30 appearances coming in Ligue 1, too, Silva showed that he can not only turn up but also perform as he bagged an impressive 6.97/10 average rating in the league (per WhoScored).
