An update has emerged on the transfer of LOSC Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes which suggests that he will not be moving to Everton.

According to Le 10 Sport, which referenced a report by Foot Mercato, Serie A club Napoli have agreed a €25m (£22.6m) fee to secure the services of the Brazilian centre-back.

The report goes on to state that all that remains is for the club and the player to ‘find an agreement’, however, those discussions have got off to a ‘good start’.

We'll start easy for this Everton kits quiz, which shirt sponsor did the Toffees announce that their partnership with would be being brought to a premature end earlier this season?

This report from Le 10 Sport would suggest that the Toffees are set to miss out on the 22-year-old after ‘pressing’ for the signing for ‘a long time’.

It is also stated that Inter are ‘very attentive’ to the situation regarding Magalhaes as they also have an interest.

The Brazilian has three years left on his contract with Lille and a market value of £15.75m according to Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

Judging from the 22-year-old’s statistics this season, too, it seems as though Carlo Ancelotti may be missing out on a very talented defender.

In the Ligue 1 during the 2019/20 season, the Brazilian bagged an impressive 6.93/10 average rating which betters that of Yerry Mina in the Premier League, who has managed a 6.85/10 average rating so far.

It also seems that Magalhaes would be able to fill the role of a ball-playing defender due to his impressive number of passes per league game on average.

Should the Toffees stump up €25m (£22.6m) to secure the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes?

No, he's not worth it

Yes, he'd be great for us

Over 24 Ligue 1 appearances, the defender managed a whopping 61.8 passes per game on average (per WhoScored), this far outweighs Mina’s 48.9 passes per league match (per WhoScored).

Magalhaes has also shown his defensive ability with 1.7 tackles per match compared to Mina’s 1.5.

So, it would seem that for the sake of €25m (£22.6m), the Merseyside club may be missing out on a young defender with plenty of ability compared to the Toffees’ Colombian centre-back.
