Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly lined up a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva on a free transfer.

According to Le 10 Sport, as cited by Sport Witness, the club’s Italian manager has taken steps towards bringing the Brazilian to Goodison Park.

On Sunday, it was revealed by L’Equipe that Silva would be leaving PSG when his contract expires at the end of the month due to him not being offered a new deal – and it appears that Ancelotti has acted swiftly.

This fresh report from Le 10 Sport states that the Toffees’ gaffer has spoken to the 35-year-old defender on the phone and has even suggested a possible two-year deal.

We'll start easy for this Everton kits quiz, which shirt sponsor did the Toffees announce that their partnership with would be being brought to a premature end earlier this season?

While the player would be interested in working with Ancelotti again, there could be a stumbling block to signing the player whose contract expires at the end of the month.

Reportedly, clubs such as AC Milan, Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona also have an interest in potentially acquiring the Brazilian’s services on a free transfer from PSG.

TIF Thoughts…

If the Toffees can fend off interest from the big-name clubs that have been touted with an interest in the 35-year-old centre-back, Silva looks like a good acquisition on paper.

While he was only the 13th-best performer for PSG in Ligue 1 over the 2019/20 season, he picked up a respectable 6.97/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

In fact, if he was to have picked up the same rating for the Toffees in the Premier League this season, he would be Everton’s fourth-best performer (per WhoScored).

Would you be pleased with the signing of Thiago Silva on a free transfer?

In key defensive statistics, however, Silva does not seem any more impressive than one of the centre-backs the Toffees already have in Yerry Mina.

This season, Mina has made 1.5 tackles and 1.0 interceptions per league game on average, whereas Silva has made 1.3 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per league outing.

However, considering Everton’s Colombian set the club back £27.23 million to sign (per Transfermarkt), it is obvious why Silva on a free transfer is appealing.

Moreover, the Brazilian is rather decorated when it comes to trophies won, with his tally currently at 28.
