Everton are closing in on the signing of Barcelona’s French defender Jean-Clair Todibo on a permanent transfer.

According to Sport, as cited by Sport Witness, the player’s ‘immediate future’ is now looking likely to be on Merseyside with Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit.

The transfer is supposedly going to set the Goodison Park club back €20m (£18.1m) initially and then €5m (£4.5m) in the future through ‘variables’.

To start this quiz on Richarlison with an easy one, how much did the Toffees pay to secure the Brazilian's services including potential future fees?

As stated in Sport’s report, the Catalan club could have accepted that offer from Everton for the man on loan at Schalke weeks ago, however, they were holding out for a club to offer the full €25m (£22.6m) upfront.

No other offers arrived, though, and the Spaniards are willing to accept the offer now as they want to raise €70m (£63.3m) by the end of the month.

The 20-year-old centre-back currently has three years left on his contract with Barcelona and a market value of £8.1m according to Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

When considering the defender’s statistics for Schalke in the Bundesliga this season, it would seem that the signing of Todibo could be a shrewd move.

Across eight outings in the German top division this season, the Frenchman has earned a respectable 6.86/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

If the 20-year-old had replicated the same average rating for the Toffees in the Premier League this season, he would be their fifth-best performer in the league (per WhoScored).

Would you be pleased with the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo?

Furthermore, in key defensive statistics, he appears to be a better defender than Yerry Mina, who has earned a 6.85/10 average rating in the league this term.

Todibo has made 1.9 tackles and 1.9 interceptions per Bundesliga match on average this season, whereas Everton’s Colombian defender has made only 1.5 tackles and one interception per league match.

Mina has made the most passes per league match of any Everton player this season with 48.9, however, Todibo falls some way short of this with only 33.0 per Bundesliga match.

So, the two players could perhaps make a strong pairing with Mina as a ball-playing defender and Todibo as a more capable tackler.
