Supporters of Everton have been airing their delight over news on Leighton Baines’ contract which was relayed by Alan Myers.

On Wednesday, the broadcast journalist stated that the Toffees’ English left-back is set to extend his stay at the club after being offered a new one-year deal (per Alan Myers).

As stated in Myers’ tweet, the contract extension will take Baines into a 14th season at Goodison Park.

The 35-year-old has been an Everton player since the summer of 2007; the Merseyside club secured his services from Wigan Athletic for a fee of £6.75 million (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, Baines has made 417 appearances for the Toffees, in which he has bagged an impressive 39 goals and 67 assists.

Having made his England debut in 2010, the left-back has made 30 appearances and scored one goal for the Three Lions during his time with the club.

Baines’ contract is currently set to expire at the end of this month (per Transfermarkt), however, it seems as though he will be extending his stay at Goodison Park.

So, after the news on the 35-year-old’s supposed contract extension was relayed to supporters on social media, fans let their delight be known.

That did not affect fans’ happiness, though.

Although Baines has only made a handful of league appearances for the club this season, the veteran defender has still shown that he is capable of playing at a high level.

Over his five outings, Baines has picked up a solid 6.78/10 average rating which has made him the sixth-best Everton performer in the Premier League this term.

As can be seen in these responses from Everton supporters, they were clearly delighted with the news that Baines is set to extend his stay at Goodison Park for a further year.
