France Football has recently published a report claiming that a wage agreement ‘is very close’ between Crystal Palace’s Mamadou Sakho and Ligue 1 side Lyon ahead of a proposed move from Selhurst Park for the 30-year-old centre-back.

France Football goes on to reveal that Sakho would have to accept a wage cut if he were to leave Palace to join Lyon, however, this report also claims that Lyon ‘could partially offset for this drop with a signing bonus’.

While Lyon haven’t yet made an official bid for the player according to the French publication, Les Gones are currently negotiating a three-year contract with the centre-back, with Crystal Palace reportedly hoping to receive a transfer fee of €5m (£4.53m) for the defender. Palace are said to be open to selling the defender should they receive an acceptable offer.

Do you think that Mamadou Sakho will be a Crystal Palace player next season?

TIF Thoughts…

Sakho, who is currently valued at £8.55m according to Transfermarkt, moved to Crystal Palace for a transfer fee of £25.38m back in August 2017. The former France international has made 64 appearances for the Eagles during his time at the club, however, just nine of those appearances have come during the 2019/20 campaign, with the defender missing some games due to both injury and suspension throughout the current season

Furthermore, Sakho has earned an average overall rating of just 6.21 from his nine Premier League appearances for the Eagles this term according to WhoScored, which ranks him as the joint-lowest rated player to feature in more than one Premier League game for Palace this term.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that Sakho hasn’t performed particularly impressively when he has been on the pitch this season and it may not come as a surprise that Palace appear to be open to selling the defender.
