Callum O’Hare could be set to depart Aston Villa on a free transfer later this month.

The 22-year-old spent the season on loan with Coventry City in League One, helping the Sky Blues to the league title, as the third tier was ended earlier this week after a vote from clubs (per Sky Sports). The youngster’s contract with Dean Smith’s side is set to expire in June, but it seems as if he won’t be extending his stay with the Villans.

Who scored Villa's goal in their 1-0 win against Stoke City on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premier League season?

Birmingham Live claims: “Aston Villa are set to lose talented Callum O’Hare within the next few weeks unless a contract standstill can be resolved.”

Villa have offered the midfielder a new deal but he is yet to be convinced by the Premier League side, with first-team football on his mind. It also suggests that Mark Robins’ side have made signing him a priority after their promotion to the Championship, which is perhaps unsurprising when you consider that he made 29 appearances for Coventry in League One this season; contributing three goals and four assists (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

With Villa still in serious danger of relegation to the Championship, perhaps next season could see O’Hare finally earn a starting spot for the Villans. The academy graduate has made just nine first-team appearances for the Villans in his career; despite impressing with the U’23 side; with whom he has featured 61 times, contributing 15 goals and 11 assists (per Transfermarkt).

Would it be a mistake to let O'Hare leave for nothing this summer?

It will be interesting to see whether the 22-year-old will agree to a new deal with Smith’s side, or whether he opts to leave the club after the expiry of his contract, with Coventry seemingly hoping to see him return to them in the Championship next season.
