Arsenal-focused writer Tim Stillman recently made an appearance on the Football Today podcast, where he shared his thoughts on Gunners forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future.

The host of the podcast, Josh Schneider-Weiler, brought up the topic of the striker’s future by mentioning that the Gabon international’s contract with the Gunners is set to expire at the end of June 2021, before asking Stillman what he thinks the north London club should “do with him in the summer”. Stillman shared that he believes the current viral outbreak has had a significant impact on this situation. The Arsenal writer stated that he believes the club will not be able to offer Aubameyang as much money as they could have previously, while he also believes that potential buyers will not be able to spend as much money on the forward as they could have prior to the viral outbreak, (19:23) which is expected to have a significant impact on football’s transfer market, according to reports

Stillman went on to state that he believes it could be the right time for the player and the club to part ways, saying that “now is really the time” for Aubameyang, who is set to turn 31 years old later this week, to leave the club if that is what he wants to do.

He also suggested that he doesn’t think selling Aubameyang is going to hinder Arsenal’s chances of winning silverware in the near future, with the Premier League a distant target at present:

“Aubameyang’s 31; Arsenal are not going to win the league in the next couple of years – it’s not going to happen. So I don’t think selling Aubameyang is going to stop us sweeping to glory and Arsenal need to generate revenue.

“I just question now what that revenue might look like and maybe it would be better to keep him for another year and maybe sell [Alexandre] Lacazette, so I think it’s entirely dependent on the amount of interest there is,” he said.

“If someone comes in with a good offer, I think we should take it.” (20:04)

Should Arsenal sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer?

YES, IT'S TIME TO SELL

NO, KEEP HIM FOR ANOTHER SEASON

TIF Thoughts…

Aubameyang is the Premier League’s second-highest goalscorer for the 2019/20 season, having netted on 17 occasions this term. With that in mind, it may be difficult for Arsenal to replace him if they do decide to part ways with the player this summer.

However, the Gunners may believe that it would be more beneficial for them to recoup a transfer fee for the player, who is currently valued at £50.4m according to Transfermarkt, by selling him this summer instead of running the risk of allowing him to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of next season. With that in mind, it may be understandable why Stillman has shared that he believes the club should accept “a good offer” for the attacker this summer if they receive one.
