WBA reporter Joseph Masi has revealed that he’s “not 100% sure” that Baggies centre-back Ahmed Hegazi, who is currently valued at £3.15m according to Transfermarkt, will be a West Brom player next season, during an appearance on a recent edition of The Express and Star’s ‘Baggies Broadcast’ podcast.

Hegazi’s current contract with the Baggies is set to run until 30th June 2022, however, the 29-year-old Egypt international hasn’t been enjoying an incredibly impressive campaign at The Hawthorns this season.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

He has featured in just 10 of the Baggies’ 37 Championship games thus far, and after suffering an ankle injury last summer which forced him to miss plenty of West Brom’s games at the beginning of the season, Hegazi suffered another injury setback just prior to the postponement of the Championship back in March after he was forced off the pitch in the Baggies’ February loss to Wigan Athletic. This injury kept him out of the Baggies’ most recent Championship game – a 0-0 draw with Swansea City on 7th March.

As per Birmingham Live, Hegazi has since recovered from that injury and is training with West Brom ahead of the Championship’s restart, but when asked if the 29-year-old could start for the club this weekend against Birmingham City, Baggies-focused journalist Masi took the opportunity to speculate on the defender’s future.

Masi said: “[Kyle] Bartley’s always been above him in my pecking order, but they’re both very good, no-nonsense Championship centre-backs, aren’t they? Whoever doesn’t get the nod is going to be really, really, really unfortunate.

“I don’t know why – I’ve said this before on the podcast – I just feel there’s a bit of an inkling, I’m not 100% sure Hegazi’s going to be at the club next season. I’ve got absolutely no knowledge why, it just feels like at his age and maybe because he hasn’t been first-choice this season that it might be a natural parting of the ways.”

Do you think that Hegazi will be a West Brom player next season?

YES, I THINK SO

TIF Thoughts…

As per Transfermarkt, Semi Ajayi, Kyle Bartley and Dara O’Shea, all of whom have featured at centre-back for the Baggies this term, have accumulated a higher number of league minutes for West Brom than Hegazi this season.

Considering that he has been somewhat further down the pecking order of Baggies centre-backs this season, it may be understandable why Masi feels that Hegazi may not be a West Brom player next season, especially if the Baggies earn promotion to the Premier League, with the club currently sitting in second place in the league table, six points clear of third-placed Fulham.
