Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk provided Owls fans with an update on Josh Windass during his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s Championship clash with Bristol City

As per The Sheffield Star, on-loan Windass, who is currently valued at £1.44m according to Transfermarkt, picked up an injury in training earlier this month which was reportedly set to keep the 26-year-old playmaker out of action for the Owls’ ‘first three or four matches back’ following the Championship’s restart.

This report from The Sheffield Star went on to claim that Windass’ injury ‘has cast question marks’ over whether or not the Owls will extend his loan until the end of the season, with his current deal set to expire at the end of June.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Robins, Owls boss Monk provided an update on Windass’ fitness, as well as Wednesday’’s intentions with regard to extending his stay at Hillsborough.

As per Yorkshire Live, Monk said: “He should be back to be involved in the last four to five games. He’s a very fit lad and is rehabbing well. We are looking to extend his loan.

“Josh is doing really well. We’re really confident he’ll be able to make it back for a big chunk of the games.

“We’ll have to see when we get to that point but now he’s focusing on getting fit and where he needs to be. I think very highly of Josh and I think he’s a great asset.”

TIF Thoughts…

With all eight of the Owls’ remaining Championship fixtures set to be played between 28th June and 21st July, it may be particularly important for Monk to have as many players as possible fit and available for selection during what will be a busy period.

With that in mind, it may be a boost for Wednesday that the manager has revealed that he believes Windass could be available for at least half of the club’s remaining league fixtures of the 2019/20 campaign and that the club are “looking to extend his loan.”
